Apache Announces Partnerships to Plant 288,000 Trees

HOUSTON, Oct. 16, 2017 -- Apache Corporation (NYSE:APA) (Nasdaq:APA) is kicking off the 2017-2018 tree planting season by awarding over 288,000 trees as part of its annual Apache Tree Grant Program. This year, the company is partnering with 48 nonprofits across three states. Partners include the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, National Park Service, the I-20 Wildlife Preserve and Jenna Welch Nature Study Center. Plantings will begin this month and continue through May 2018. Apache's Tree Grant program has donated more than 4 million trees to nonprofits in 17 states since its launch in 2005.

West Texas growing greener

One of this year's awards will support a prairie restoration program of the I-20 Wildlife Preserve and Jenna Welch Nature Study Center in Midland, Texas. This project will aid in preserving and restoring critical habitat for the nearly 600 species of native birds and other species that traverse the area. Apache is also providing tree grants to several organizations in Reeves County, home of Apache's recent Alpine High discovery. Among the recipients is the Balmorhea Economic Development Corporation which is sponsoring a Main Street tree planting project and community event celebrating Texas Arbor Day Nov. 3. "We are excited about the commitment Apache has made as a new member of our business community," said Pat Brijalba, Vice President for the Balmorhea Economic Development Corporation. "Apache's support for these projects will provide long-term benefits for our community."

Celebrating Louisiana milestones

In conjunction with our long-term partner, the New Orleans Tree Project, Apache is also supporting planting efforts in the City of New Orleans as it commemorates its 300th birthday. The project has planted over 2 million trees in Louisiana in recent years, working to replant tree cover lost following Hurricanes Katrina and Ivan. "We greatly appreciate Apache's support over the past 10 years. The New Orleans Tree Project will hit 43,000 trees planting this year alone, and Apache is responsible for at least 20,000 of them. We could not have achieved this without Apache's long-term commitment to our community" said Connie Uddo of the New Orleans Tree Project. This partnership is particularly poignant this year. To assist Apache employees recovering from Hurricane Harvey, Uddo and a group of volunteers from the NOLA Tree Project, traveled to Houston and helped Apache employees impacted by the storm and flooding to clean out their homes.

Promoting conservation and volunteerism

"Now in its 12th year, our tree program has provided substantial support to important conservation projects in many of the communities where we operate. The program has also been a great way for our employees, including me, to get out and volunteer in our communities and make a lasting contribution," said Apache CEO and President John J. Christmann IV.

A cornerstone of the company's community outreach and giving efforts, the tree program has also awarded several grants in the greater Houston, Texas area, home of the company's corporate headquarters. The City of Houston, for example, will receive trees to plant in public green spaces. Harris County, also a recipient, plans to plant their awarded trees in public parks, along trails and in roadway esplanades. Neighboring communities including Galveston, Katy and Sugar Land have also been selected for grants. The Galveston Bay Conservancy plans to plant at multiple conservation properties throughout Galveston and Chambers counties. These properties provide public access to natural areas and are protected for wildlife habitat. During this year's planting season, Apache also plans to plant a special tree on the grounds of its Houston office in honor of employees and community members impacted by Hurricane Harvey.
